Dear HPS Families, Due to the Governor's Stay at Home Order, we have made the very tough decision to cancel our Easter Egg Hunt Parade. Instead of a parade, we would love for you to place your decorated eggs on the side windows of your car so we can see them as you come through the line at school to pick up breakfasts and lunches on Thursday, April 9 from 10:30 -12:30. You can also can pick up an academic packet on Thursday if you did not make it by the school on Monday.
March 30, 2020 Dear HPS Families, It is the beginning of our second week out of school, and at this time, we are out until April 24. If that changes, announcements will be made on social media as well as in the local paper. This is a difficult time for all of us. Please know that you and your children are in my thoughts on a daily basis. Meals will be provided each day this week. Our pick-up time will continue to be from 10:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Academic packets will be distributed today and will also be available online at dyercs.net. Please continue to monitor the district website, the HPS website, and the HPS Facebook page, as this is a great way to learn about any changes. Each grade level also has a Facebook group, so please join the appropriate page if you have not done so. Our teachers are doing their best to check their emails regularly. If you have a question about any of the work that is provided, please email your child’s teacher. If you need the email address let us know. We will also have someone answering the phone this week between the hours of 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. You can call during these times if you have any questions. December 15-19 will be manager's choice for lunch.
December 9 beginning at 4:30 is Family Literacy Night. Students hear a story, make a craft, make snow, and make a snowman treat to eat. This is a free event for HPS students and families.
Tuesday, December 17 we will have Polar Express day for students who have 3 or less minors and no majors. Eligible students will be able to purchase a soda and a popcorn. Order forms will be going home and must be returned with money by Friday, December 13. All students will be allowed to wear pajamas this day, and they do need to have appropriate shoes for recess and PE.
The food drive will continue until December 11.
On Wednesday we are going to celebrate World Kindness Day. If you have a cardigan, wear it. If you don’t have one still spend the day spreading kindness to all that you meet. A kind word, a simple gesture, or an act of service can go a long way in spreading kindness. Be a positive ripple of change, and be the change you wish to see in the world.
Fall Festival is October 26 from 3:30-6:30.

Each year Dyersburg Electric purchases the entire staff and students a tshirt. This year the students have been asked to help design the shirt. One student's design will be picked for the 2019-2020 school year. Please have them submit their design to their teacher by Friday, August 23. Limit the design to one color. We can't wait to see the students' great ideas!

On July 15 we want to take pictures of any students who will attend HPS for the 2019-2020 school year. These pictures will be used around the building. There will be a photographer at the school from 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. All students who are interested in having their picture made to possibly be used in the school, please stop by the school with a parent/guardian on Monday, July 15 between 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. Parents will be asked to sign a permission form for the use of the image.

Holice Powell Title I Spring Parent Meeting Tuesday, April 30, 2019 at 3:45 p.m. in the cafeteria. All parents of Preschool - 5th grade students are encouraged to attend.
Dyer County Schools will register children for the Pre-K classes on Thursday, April 11, 2019 from 4:00 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. and on Friday, April 12, 2019, from 8:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. at the Milton McGee Auditorium, 159 Everett Ave, Dyersburg. Applications will be available the day of registration. Your child must be four years old by August 15, 2019, to be eligible for the program. If you are interested, please bring the following information with you the day of registration: Child's Certified Birth Certificate (not the Mother's Copy) Child's social security number Proof of income for ALL adults in the household Child's most current physical and shot record (TN shot form) Proof of residency (utility bill or lease) *Please remember, applying for the Pre-K program does not automatically enroll your child. Notification letters will be mailed June 5th. Please bring your child to registration if possible. Vision, speech and hearing screenings will be conducted.
Kindergarten Registration will take place on Wednesday, April 10th from 8:15-3:30 at each elementary school. A child must be 5 years old on or before August 15, 2019 to attend Kindergarten during the 2019-2020 school year. Parents may pick up registration packets at their child's school. Included in this packet will be: (1) an explanation of requirements for enrollment (2) and a registration form. State law requires that all children have a physical examination and proof of immunizations before entering school. You may register your child without the immunization record and physical, but you must have them both before school starts August 1, 2019. On registration day parents need to bring the following: child's birth certificate, the child's social security number and the Certificate of Immunizations form (if you have physical and immunization record already completed).

KEYS Families: Holice Powell is fortunate to have KEYS, a tutoring program for our school that allows for help with homework as well as enrichment activities. This program is a federally funded grant program, and one of the requirements is to receive feedback from the parents of our attendees.
