Recently, our Student Leadership Team had the privilege to go to the University of Tennessee at Martin to learn about leadership from some of the men's basketball players and meet the head men’s basketball coach. Students went to the academic lab in the Elam Center, met the cheerleaders and Captain Skyhawk, and watched women’s and men’s basketball games. They got basketball posters signed by several players, and Josh Endicott, who visited Holice Powell during our “Take a Skyhawk to School” event recently, signed the students’ Leadership shirts.
Students watched an Equestrian match and learned more about equestrian competitions, leadership, and student athleticism from some Equestrian team members. Students were able to meet and pet one of their prized horses.
Accompanying our students were Holice Powell Principal, Dr. Sara Cravens, Monica Robbins who was part of the 2022 WestTeach class, and Jennifer Milan and Ben Click who sponsor the Student Leadership Team. Monica, Jennifer, and Ben are UTM alumni so they were able to share their Skyhawk pride with our Choctaw students.
We’d like to thank Danelle Fabianich, the Senior Associate Athletic Director at UTM, UT Martin Athletics, UT Martin Chancellor Keith Carver, and the student-athletes who made today memorable for our students. You all did a wonderful job inspiring our students to work hard, reach for their dreams, and realize anything is possible with hard work, dedication, teamwork, and gratitude.
